The Muslim Post zakat calculator is useful only when the input categories are understood. This checklist explains the asset groups used by the tool: cash, bank savings, gold value, silver value, business inventory, receivables, and debts due now. It is an educational preparation page, not a final zakat ruling.

Quran 2:267 gives a broad source anchor for giving from what you have earned, while Quran 9:60 names zakat recipient categories. Those verses do not turn a calculator into a scholar. They remind editors and readers that the subject is worship, accountability and social distribution, not just arithmetic.

The calculator combines zakatable assets, deducts debts due now within the simplified model, compares the remaining amount with the selected gold or silver nisab threshold, and estimates 2.5 percent when the amount is above nisab. Complex assets, business structures, investments and disputed debts need more review.

Use the checklist before entering numbers. If a row is uncertain, mark it for local scholarly or financial review instead of hiding the uncertainty inside a single total.

FAQ

Is the calculator's 2.5% result a final zakat ruling?

No. It is an estimate for ordinary planning inputs. Complex assets, businesses, debts and local rulings need qualified review.

Should I use gold nisab or silver nisab?

The tool lets you compare both. Ask your local scholar or zakat institution which basis they recommend for your situation.
